Contest Trophy Arrives in Warrington
This year's RSGB Convention was held over the weekend of 10th to 11th
October at Wyboston Lakes Conference Centre was a good mix of technical,
DX, operating and contesting seminars. It was a well attended event with
many UK and overseas visitors in attendance.
The HF Contest Trophy Presentations were held on Sunday morning for HF
contest awards that had been won during the preceding year and a member
of Warrington ARC picked up their first piece of silverware for winning
a category in the prestigious IOTA Contest.

Sport Radio - ARDF Practice Evening
The club has an upcoming ARDF day but with not all members
having tried DF before, a practice evening was in order.
Fortunately the weather was good and the practice evening gave
members the chance to test their 80m DF skills in a controlled
environment before the real thing scheduled for later in the
month.
Find out what went on.

PW Contest and GB0BAB Special Event Station
We will be taking part in the 26th Practical Wireless 144MHz
Contest on Sunday, 14th June. A suitable site has been located
by Bill, G0PZP and Paul, G7ODJ and permission to
operate there obtained from the land owner. Preparations are
now underway to put the station together. A number of club
members will be out on the day, operating between 0900 and 1600
UTC (10AM to 5PM local time) most likely on SSB and we would
welcome a call from you.
Later in the month we will be taking part in the International Museums Weekend and
operating as GB0BAB from Burtonwood Air Base Heritage Centre
which is
located next to the entrance of the Gulliver's World Theme Park.
The final list of bands and modes is still to be decided but is
likely to include 80m, 40m, 20m and 2m, SSB, CW, PSK, FM and maybe
SSTV. See our GB0BAB Burtonwood Air base page for information about last
year's operation. We expect to be operating on Saturday 27th and
Sunday 28th June and would welcome a call from you or if you're
in the area why not visit us at the Museum?
Post Event Summary
The Practical Wireless 144MHz QRP Contest was a great success and a fun day out. Nine club members were on site to support the event and the weather couldn't have been better. The planning and co-ordination went well which allowed us to reach a respectable final score. Thanks all round to everyone that supported the event.
The Burtonwood Air Base museum was once again alive with radio and although the good weather couldn't quite be matched by good conditions on HF, we still racked up our highest QSO tally over previous GB0BAB events. Many thanks to the club members and stations that called us to make another successful and memorable event.

And Now The Hard Work Begins
After some 4 months of design, layout and rewriting work, our new
web site has finally been launched. Over the coming months the site
will continue to have its content updated and there will be a number
of new areas added to reflect and promote the club and its members'
interests.

please use the contacts page to get in touch with the webmaster.
GB0LSM Lymm Slitting Mill: 9 - 10 May 2009
This Year With More Bands And Modes
The S.P.A.B. Mills section (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings)
run the Mills Weekend Event every year on or around the second weekend in May.
This event is not a contest and we are putting a Special Event Station, GB0LSM,
on the air to promote Amateur Radio while also helping to preserve some of our
heritage. We will be operating three stations covering HF, 4m and 2m.
Post Event Summary
The station was operated on Saturday and Sunday by a number of
club members and was a relaxed and enjoyable couple of days. In
total 189 contacts were made across 80m, 40m, 20m, 4m and 2m.
12 were other mill stations and 11 were fellow club members with
15 DXCC countries in the log. More details to follow soon.

WARC Wins Two Awards
Hot on the heels of last year's award for Best Club Magazine, we decided to repeat our D-STAR theme but this time with a twist. Icom dominate the Digital Voice arena so we set up our stand to demonstrate D-STAR using Yaesu radios instead. An enthusiatic reception and much interest was received culminating in the club being awarded two trophies.
