Operating from his Shack

Thank you Cliff for handing over the club in probably the best state it has ever been in, excellent environment and excellently equipped. Who would have thought so much could be achieved in a year. We now have a club room that is accessible to all, thanks to the efforts of our members and the monies made available to us from the various organisations and individuals, without which none of this would have been possible.

It is my mission to exploit and promote the merits of our well equipped station including making the most of the changes to our licences such as remote operation etc. I will also be looking at proposing to the club membership improving our VHF and UHF station, the addition of a decent VHF/UHF/SHF sideband radio and the appropriate antennas, I see as the icing on the cake to our excellently equipped HF station. We will of course need to look how we will fund this and I will be looking for your fund raising ideas

I want this to be a year of operating and having fun with radio, I think we have all worked hard enough over the past year or so with the non radio aspects of our club. This year lets get “Radio Active” with more outside events, more contests and let us all endeavour to promote and make the Warrington Amateur Radio Club the premier club of not only the North West but the whole country.

Our weekly club talks are aimed at the needs of the members, and we are pointedly including subjects for which a degree in maths is not required, although one or two of them it would certainly help! The membership has all levels of experience and whilst there are some talks where the subject matter is such that some knowledge is needed, many are “how to” or introductory talks. Our membership has a vast experience in most aspects of electronics and computing, and many problems are resolved over a pint at the bar before or after our Tuesday evening meeting.

If all this sounds like the sort of amateur radio club activity you would like to be a part of, please contact me by email or visit us on a Tuesday evening at 20:00 in the clubroom, or from 19:30 in the Bellhouse Club bar. Alternatively why not join in one of our daily morning nets at 10:00 or the Thursday evening net at 20:00 both on 145.400 +/- QRM.

.........................................................................................

Warrington Amateur Radio Club meet every Tuesday evening from 8pm onwards at Grappenhall Community Centre, Bell House Lane, Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire. New members are always welcome!

Directions :

From M6 Junction 20, follow the A50 towards Warrington. After approximately 1 - 2 miles you will pass over a canal bridge and approach a 30mph zone. Bell House Lane is on the left as you enter the 30mph zone.

From Warrington town centre, follow signs for Knutsford/Macclesfield along A50. This route is a little complicated and you will pass through one or two of the suburbs of Warrington, namely Latchford and Grappenhall. If all is well, if you are following the A50, you will pass over the Manchester Ship Canal, and the road will bend gently to the left. Follow this until you reach traffic lights (not any pedestrian crossing). Continue through these traffic signals and the road will bear to the right. Bell House Lane is a short distance on the right.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our Club.
